Bethany Offers Mental Wellness
Bethany Christian Church received a Mental Health Initiative Grant from the Center for Congregations in 2024, enabling us to begin a Mental Wellness Ministry that offers tangible resources to support the mental health of members of our congregation and the wider Evansville community.
Sensory Support
Bethany has a supply of noise canceling headphones and ear muffs, weighted blankets, fidgets, and children’s activity bags for use during worship. We are in the process of repurposing a room adjacent to the sanctuary as a low-stimulation environment with soft lighting, quiet activities, and a sensory tent.
Art Journeys
Art Journeys meets on Thursdays at 6pm. Jean Page continues to offer many opportunities for reflection, learning, and mindfulness as she leads this wellness program. Join us as we continue to explore how acts of creation can calm the body and mind and fill the spirit. Art supplies are available and free! All ages and abilities are welcome.

Midday Mindfulness
Join us on Thursdays at noon to practice mindfulness meditation, a state of being not doing, of focusing on the present moment not on the future or the past, a time of non-judgment, non-striving, kindness, and peace. People who practice mindfulness regularly feel less pain and stress, gain greater perspective, and increase their ability to self-regulate. We begin in the basement wellness space but may relocate to paths through the Bethany woods or elsewhere depending on where the Spirit moves us. There are mats and cushions available, or you may bring your own.

Therapy Fund
Bethany chose to set aside some of the grant funds it received to create a therapy fund to cover out-of-pocket expenses for mental health treatment. This money is available for church members and non-church members alike.
